How to run old programs in Windows 7

As  you might know, if you have used both Windows XP and Windows 7 you might have noticed that some older programs from Windows XP might not work on Windows 7. If the same program is not designed for both Windows XP and 7, you can try to run it in Compatibility Mode on Windows 7. The Compatibility Mode enables you to run old programs by reducing some functionality such as video color.

In Windows 7, when you try to open an old program, you might receive an error. In this case, you can make the program to run in Compatibility Mode with the following instructions.

  1. Right-click the program’s icon and choose Properties.
  2. When the Properties dialog box appears, click the Compatibility tab.
  3. In the Compatibility Mode section, select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For check box.
  4. Select the program’s desired Windows version from the drop-down list.
  5. Check your program’s box or look at its manual to see what version of Windows it expects.
  6. Click OK and then try running your program again to see whether it works better.
