How to enable auto login in Vista and Windows 7

Windows Vista requires you to create another user account besides the standard Administrator account. Once you have another user account create, it will display the choices for you to login unless you click which account you want to login.

Some people would like to auto login their preferred account without clicking the extra steps to login. This article describes how to enable auto login in Windows Vista without editing Windows Registry.

To enable auto login in Windows Vista and Windows 7, follow these instructions.

  1. Click Start menu, type netplwiz in the search field
  2. 2.       The Advanced User Accounts menu comes up, select the account you want to make it auto login, uncheck the option Must enter a username and password to use this computer.
  3. Click Apply. A new window will now pops up asking you to enter the password of the account you’ve just highlighted. Do this, and then click Ok
  4. Click Ok on the Advanced User Accounts menu to finish
  5. Log off Vista and it should auto login to the user account that you selected
