How to disable Windows automatic reboot after update in Windows 7
Windows 7 has a default setting for Windows to reboot after the automatic update, if you don’t click the Postpone button, the system will use the default setting to restart itself in ten minutes. This is very annoying when you are working on something and you just walk away for a while but didn’t save your work. You will lose all the work that is not saved.
This article describes how to disable the automatic update reboots in Windows Registry. It’s recommended to backup your Windows Registry before you modify it.
To manually disable the Windows automatic update reboot in regedit.exe, follow these instructions.
- Click Start and type in regedit in the search box.
- Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
3. Double click the key to change the value to 1.
4. Exit regedit and reboot your system.
Note: If the key does not exists, create a new 32-bit DWORD value named NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers and give it a value of 1 to prevent automatic reboot while users are logged on
