How to fix Symantec antivirus auto protect disabled on taskbar

I have seen Symantec Antivirus’s auto protect is disabled, when I right click on the Symantec icon on taskbar, I see the greyed out protect that I can’t turn it on. This is the older version of Norton I think it’s 9 SAV.

Another problem was when I try to uninstall it from Add/Remove programs in Control Panel, it’s not listed as an installed program. Then I tried to re-install SAV but it failed. I also try to upgrade it to Symantec Endpoint but failed as well. I did some google search and found out it could be the LiveUpdate corrupted. I reinstalled LiveUpdate, and then re-installed SAV.

After I rebooted the system, there is no more yellow sign on the icon. The cause of the yellow sign on SAV icon varies, it could be infected by virus, or it could be corrupted database or installed files.  In this article, I wrap up some tips on how to repair corrupted or damaged Norton products.

1: Scan your system for Spyware, Malwares. Use Malwarebytes or Superantispyware

2: Update SAV database

3: Uninstall SAV

4: Re-install LiveUpdate

5: Use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall hard-to-remove programs

6: Use Symantec Removal Tool to remove corrupted installed Symantec products.
