How to fix Internet Explorer 9 crashes when opening webpage with Java Applet

ISSUE

When visiting a web page containing Java Applet, your Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) crashes.

CAUSE

This error occurs if you are using an older version of Java for Internet Explorer 9. You need to have Java version Java 6u24 or higher. Another reason is that the Compatibility View Settings in IE 9 might be disabled.

SOLUTION

There two solutions for the IE9 crash when visiting webpage containing Java Applet. Please follow either one of the following solutions.

1. Get the latest Java from Java.com. Java version Java6u24 has resolved the issue revolving around ActiveX filtering feature in IE 9. Hence the Java applets should be running fine with this release.
2. Enable Compatibility view settings in IE 9

• Open IE 9 browser
• Click on Tools tab
• Click on Compatibility view settings option
• Click on Add button
• Add the website
