How to fix laptop cannot boot with black screen
ISSUE
When you press the laptop power button, you do not see anything on the screen, and you do not see the hard disk light is on. But you feel that the hard drive is trying to spin and will not boot up; same thing if you put a Windows XP CD inside the CD drive to boot up. The DVD drive would spin up and attempt to read a disc if one was in the tray but still would not boot.
CAUSE
There could be many possible causes. The easiest method we are going to try is the steps on this article, which is to drain the power in the battery. If that does not work, try to swap out the memory if you have additional one.
SOLUTION
- Unplug the power from the laptop.
- Remove the battery from the laptop.
- Hold down the power button for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Replug the power and attempt a boot.
NOTE: When you see problems like this that there is no POST on screen, besides draining the power in the battery, another method is to swap out the memory. Many people would think the hard disk or OS is having problem. This is a big mistake to troubleshoot problems like this.
If you don’t see the BIOS loading on screen, there is nothing to do with the hard disk or OS because the system is trying to load the BIOS on the system board first.
