How to disable Numlock on laptop keyboard
Laptop keyboard is little bit different from desktop
keyboard, there is no number pad on
laptop keyboard and the Numlock key is combined with other key. Which cause
login problems if the Numlock key option is turned on when the system starts
up.
In my work place, the computers are joined on a domain and
users needs to login to the domain. And we image our system from ghost server. By
default the image has Numlock turned on, if we image a laptop, and forget to
edit regedit or BIOS to turn off the Numlock option, we will have problem to
login the laptop because when we type the password in the password field, the
characters are not shown and you thought you type in the correct password.
In this article, we are going to cover the steps how to edit
regedit to change Numlock state. If you are new to Windows Registry Editor, you
should backup the Windows Registry database before you make any changes, it
could cause your system will not boot up if you mess it up.
1. From Start
menu, go to Run.
2. Type regedit, it will bring up the Windows Registry
Editor.
3. Navigate to this subkey:
HKEY_USERS/.Default/Control Panel/Keyboard/
4. Double click InitialKeyboardIndicators
5. Change the Value
data to 2.
6. Exit regedit and logout to try again.
