How to connect network registry
What is Windows Registry Editor
As a computer technician, I often use Registry Editor in computer problem solving. Registry Editor is an advanced tool for viewing and changing settings in your system registry, which contains information about how your computer runs. Windows stores its configuration information in a database (the registry) that is organized in a tree format. Windows Registry Editor is a binary application that you can open to view and modify settings. But keep in mind that Registry Editor has no save or undo menu, anything you change will be saved after you close it. It’s a good practice to export the registry before you make changes so you can import it again if there is any problem.
Why use Network Registry Editor
It’s very useful for tech support or helpdesk to change remote computer settings. If the computers are in the same domain and you are the administrator in the domain, you can just connect to the remote PC to edit the registry instead of physically go to the user’s desk to work on the issue. For example, if the remote PC is an auto login with generic account and it’s locked down in GPO with limited access. You can’t do much even if you are in front of the PC since you the system is auto sign into a non administrator generic account with shift override enabled. In case like that, you can remote into the PC registry and change the shift override or the auto login so you can login using your administrator account.
