When I was trying to add a delegate in my Outlook 2003, I received the following error:

The Delegates settings were not saved correctly. Unable to activate send-on-behalf-of list. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object.

When I looked at the error, I keep asking myself that I am the administrator of the machine and I am using my Exchange account, why don’t I have permission to perform the operation? I did some research and found out that this problem occurs after the upgrade of Windows SP3.

To fix this problem, we need to edit the Windows Registry. If you are not comfortable to edit regedit, please back it up first before you make any changes.

Go to Start menu, select Run

Type in regedit

Navigate to this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Preferences

After you select the subkey that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.

Type IgnoreSOBError, and then press ENTER.

Right-click IgnoreSOBError, and then click Modify.

In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

ISSUE

When you start a program, you receive an error message that MSVCP71.dll is missing.

CAUSE

MSVCP711.dll is a system file that resides in C:\Windows\system32. It’s normally caused by MSN or MSN browser.

SOLUTION

In cases of missing DLL files, reinstalling the software would fix the problem. But sometimes you want to just fix it instead of reinstalling the software because you might not have the software anymore. To fix the MSVCP711.dll error, the first step should find the same DLL file from other PC or download from internet and place it in system32 folder. The second method would be to reinstall MSN related software.

1. Download the MSVCP71.DLL file

2. Extract it to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder

3. If that Fails try re-registering the .dll by doing the following.

Start > run > and type "regsrv32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\msvcp71.dll" (without the quotes) click OK.

You will get a message window either telling you it has been registered successfully or an error notice.

INTRODUCTION

Some Verizon modem and routers ask you to activate your Verizon DSL account again if you reset their modem. When you open any website, it just redirects you to activate.verizon.net. You will be downloading and installing the activation software if you follow the screen instructions. Most of the time, it will just hang forever and unsuccessful.

Even you enter the correct username and password inside the modem using the IP 192.168.1.1 and the status says connected. You are still being redirected to activate.verizon.net. I have been this situation many times and I had to call Verizon tech support.

This article describes how to activate Verizon DSL, if you have entered the correct username and password inside the modem and the status is connected, follow these instructions.

1. Open Internet Explorer and type the following URL in the address bar:

192.168.1.1/Verizon/redirect.htm

2. Press Enter key to connect.

3. Select DISABLE when it takes you to the next screen which says in red: RESTRICTED.

4. Close Internet Explorer and open it again to connect to any website.

<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.

Please re-install a copy of the above file.

According to Wikipedia, NTOSKRNL.EXE is on system with Physical Address Extension support. Therefore, most of the time if are you getting this kind of error message, it’s the hardware related issue.

Recently I have been installing Juniper Juno VPN on Windows XP. Some of the machines are still running XP SP2 but Juno’s VPN requires SP3. The XP SP3 upgrade is a long process, if the process is interrupted, the system will be roll back and start over which takes another 30 minutes.

To prevent unsuccessful upgrades and interruptions, I have compiled a list of tips that could save you whole bunch of time if you would follow. The most common problem is that when the upgrade is almost finished to the end, you see the progress bar is not moving but says Running Processes After Install. Some users says it hangs there even they leave the computer on for 10 hours.

Besides the Running Processes After Install error, some users also have another about the same problem that says Performing Cleanup which hangs forever. One more issue to be noticed is that you might get Access Denied error.
